
Digital Communication
The Associate of Applied Science in Digital Communication is a pathway to the Bachelor of Applied Science in Communication and Media Studies. This degree offers hands-on learning experiences in broadcast announcing, broadcast and video production and sports and news reporting. Students are also able to pursue a variety of service learning projects as they complete the requirements for these courses.
We believe these degrees are vital parts of the campus community. Student and industry interest in the program’s success is evident as area media outlets, local businesses and marketing firms depend on our programs to prepare media professionals to fill open employment roles.
Learn And Earn Program
West Virginia University at Parkersburg offers students the opportunity to gain paid work experience while completing their associate in Digital Communication through a state-funded program called Learn and Earn.
The Learn and Earn program is sponsored by the West Virginia Community and Technical College System, and is part of the Workforce Development Initiative Program. It is an opportunity to create partnerships between industry and community and technical colleges by allowing students hands-on learning experience, and employers to train ideal future employees.

The Bachelor of Applied Science in Communication & Media Studies with a concentration in Digital Communication is a program that prepares students for a career in broadcasting, journalism, digital media or marketing. Students gain real broadcasting experience through our campus radio station. As a communication professional, you will learn and shape how people share, receive and process information. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that roughly 27,400 new positions will open up in this field before 2024.
What can I do with this degree?
The average American spends more than 10 hours a day looking at screens! Between watching videos, scrolling through social media and listening to podcasts, digital communication has a large impact on everyday life. This degree will equip you to influence the digital world with the skills you will learn in graphic design, video and sound production, social media management and more.
