Purpose & Goals

OPEN’s mission is to promote the long-term development of WVUP’s culture, based on a foundation of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We will create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus culture that not only accepts but also celebrates individuality and provides needed resources for all. The goals of the OPEN project are:

One

To model as a task force in our dealings with each other the concept and practice of civil discourse about challenging issues
Two

To model the concept and practice of civil discourse about challenging topics to the university at large
Three

To research, discuss, vet, and recommend programming related to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Four

To support and promote such programming when it occurs on campus and in the broader community
Five

To move diversity, equity, and inclusion from simple conversation and programming more deeply and fully into the DNA (the culture) of the university
Six

To informally and formally assess progress toward these goals
Seven

To recalculate, regroup, revise, repurpose, and re-energize as needed, and to view such introspective growth as continuous and essential progress
