Veteran's Upward Bound News

It is the objective of the VUB program to identify veterans that are low income and first generation college students, place them in post-secondary schools, and assist them in getting any help they need to complete the post-secondary school requirements. Services include refresher classes in Math through Pre-Calculus, Literature, Composition, Foreign Language, Laboratory Science, and Introduction to Computers, as well as, easing the first contacts with the post-secondary schools by searching for schools and career information, assisting with school and financial Aid applications, and providing tutoring.

The VUB staff will also make referrals to other agencies such as the Vet Centers or Veterans Affairs offices and appropriate community agencies. We also help the Veteran to locate military records such as the DD 214 discharge certificate, assisting with completing applications for other veterans benefits and record upgrades, and take program participants on trips to a variety of post-secondary schools, business locations of potential employers, high technology sites and cultural events.

We are pleased to announce that WVU at Parkersburg has agreed to host a new VUB outreach program. Please feel free to visit the link below, or contact Neil Young at 637-1377 or 1-800-624-3157, ext. 1377.
