WVU Parkersburg named a 2012 Global Youth Service Day Campus

Parkersburg, W.Va. 4/20/12 –West Virginia Campus Compact has named West Virginia University at Parkersburg a 2012 Global Youth Service Day campus. The distinction includes a $500 mini-grant, funded by Youth Service America and State Farm. Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes the millions of youth who improve their communities each day of the year through service and service-learning.

Established in 1988, GYSD is the largest service event in the world and is now celebrated in more than 100 countries. On GYSD, youth address the world’s most critical issues in partnership with families, schools, community and faith-based organizations, businesses and governments. The event is organized by Youth Service America with State Farm Companies Foundation as the presenting sponsor.

WVU Parkersburg is using its mini-grant to implement an important service project during the GYSD weekend, April 20 through 22. As part of the college’s project, students will contribute volunteer hours at Parkersburg’s new Courage to Change Community Recovery Center.
