WVU Parkersburg brings Harlem Rockets comedy basketball team to town

Parkersburg, W.Va. 3/26/12 – The Harlem Rockets comedy basketball team shoots back into town for another exciting showdown with some local community leaders. West Virginia University at Parkersburg’s Criminal Justice Organization is sponsoring the event, which takes place Saturday, March 31 at 6 p.m. at Parkersburg High School.

For years the Harlem Rockets have been thrilling fans with their unique combination of basketball skills, zany comedy and audience participation. This group of highly talented former college and professional basketball players specializes in supporting fundraisers for schools, charities and civic organizations.

Adding even more enthusiasm to the event, the Harlem Rockets’ opponents come from the local community. The Parkersburg team will include mayor Bob Newell, Wood County prosecutor Jason Wharton, probation chief Larry Johnson, Parkersburg chief of police Joe Martin, WVU Parkersburg professor Phil McClung and local law enforcement officers.

Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door and can be purchased by calling Louis Roy at 304.420.8618. The Criminal Justice Organization is also holding a food drive. Guests who donate a can of food at the door will be entered to into a prize drawing. Prizes include West Virginia Power tickets, a night’s stay at North Bend State Park, lift tickets for Timberline 4 Seasons Resort, and more.
