The Higher Learning Commission has given final approval for West Virginia University at Parkersburg to begin offering an online program for practicing registered nurses to complete a bachelor’s of science in nursing. WVU Parkersburg is the first community and technical college in the state to offer this program. The college is now accepting applications for the spring 2014 semester.nursing2

Because the program is entirely online, registered nurses can complete their bachelor degree without having to interrupt their employment

“This program will serve an important need for our region,” said Dr. Rhonda Tracy, senior vice president for academic affairs. “We hear continually that baccalaureate-prepared nurses are needed to staff our local hospitals and health care facilities, and we are now poised to meet these needs. We are confident that our new program will be of the same high quality as our associate degree program.”

WVU Parkersburg’s associate degree in nursing is approved by the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nurses and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. (ACEN). The college will be pursuing ACEN accreditation for the RN-to-BSN program.
