Advising Tips

Tip #1:  The WVU Parkersburg Catalog has a wealth of information in it.  The catalog is available online.  It can help you with finding the requirements of the core curriculum without taking unnecessary courses, finding detailed course descriptions and much more.

Tip #2:  Schedule an appointment with your assigned academic advisor at least once per semester prior to registration.  Your advisor can help you to avoid potential problems such as curriculum or other college requirements and put together a schedule that suits your strengths and weaknesses.

Tip #3:  Register on your appointed day.  You will be notified of the appropriate day to register by the Registrar’s Office.  It is important that you register on that particular day to get the schedule that will best work for you.  Availability of classes decreases as you delay your registration.

Tip #4:  Schedule an appointment with your advisor any time you have an academic concern.  Advisors are always available to help you as you navigate your way through your college career.  They can help with choosing classes, choosing a major, or directing you to the proper resource on campus that fits your needs.
