The student Veterans Corps and Veterans Resource Center of West Virginia University at Parkersburg is hosting a “Welcome Back” luncheon for new and returning student veterans on Wednesday, Aug. 10. Walter Tilman from the national office of Student Veterans of America (SVA) will be the keynote speaker. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the college theatre with a reception in the Veterans Resource Center.
Guest speakers will welcome the college’s student veterans and share their experiences with returning to civilian life. Student veterans will have the opportunity to meet their peers. Food and drinks will be provided by Walmart.
Tilman of Washington D.C. is vice president of programs for SVA, a nonprofit organization that includes student-veteran groups on more than 1,300 college campuses throughout the nation. He graduated from Arizona State University in 2013 with a bachelor degree in political science.
Food and drinks for this event will be provided by Walmart. Frank Tomlin, market manager for Walmart, will speak about Walmart’s success with hiring veterans. Others in attendance include representatives from the West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance and WVU Parkersburg President Dr. Fletcher Lamkin.
