Paging System

The emergency paging system was installed in 2006.  The system is a key component of the college's overall safety strategy.  It is designed to provide quick communications during a crisis situation. 

In the event of an emergency, a paging switch is activated on the nearest wall box.  This gives an immediate connection to the switchboard operator and campus police.  Through two-way communication, the operator determines the nature of the situation and routes the appropriate response.  If needed, a campus-wide announcement can be broadcast to communicate instructions.

INSTRUCTIONS

  Code Red: 
Fire, evacuation, hazmat, bomb
Evacuate building, leave lights on, shut office or classroom doors, move 100 feet away from building
 

Code Yellow:
Lock down

Lock all exterior doors; close blinds to all windows; keep faculty, staff, students, and visitors inside building until “all clear” is paged.  Post maintenance, security, and custodians at all exterior doors.

 

Code Blue:
Shelter in Place

 

All personnel move to designated shelter area.  Security will check the building for total evacuation, and then man the doors.  Maintenance shut down HVAC system and seal doors with plastic and duct tape. 

 

 Code Orange:
Security/Medical

 
 The Code Orange team will respond to the paged area.  Campus Police will then direct the team on appropriate procedures to follow.
  Code Amber:
Kidnapping
Security, Campus Police, maintenance, and custodians report immediately to assigned exterior doors.
