New Business

Fire Alarm System

The old fire alarm system is over twenty years old, and it has become difficult to get replacement parts.  We are having a new system installed over the next few months.  The new system will be more specific in terms of locating the source location of an alarm trigger.  While the system is being installed, State Fire Marshals will visit campus frequently.  Also, three weeks ago the fire alarm went off, and Eastwood responded.  The issue was a duct detector.

Threat Assessment Team

This team is designed to be a clearinghouse to filter issues that may indicate a person may be in distress or be a danger.  It is based on WVU’s Crisis Management Team.  Records are kept under double-lock protocol.  Issues should be  reported to Anthony Underwood, Karen Branham, or Christine Post (methods to report items anonymously are also being considered).  From there, the team is called to review the issue.  The team is designed to deal with the “smoldering threats.”

IF AN IMMEDIATE THREAT IS NOTICED, CALL SECURITY OR 911.

H1N1

Connie has created a flu website for the college to serve as an information clearinghouse.  Hand sanitizer stations for the main campus and JCC will be created.  If you are sick, stay home and stay home an extra day after the symptoms stop.  Supervisors will be given flexibility with the five-day/medical note rule. Face masks have also been ordered.  Custodians will periodically go around and use antibacterial cleaners on doorknobs.  A spray has been ordered to assist in cleaning keyboards. Pam noted that hand sanitizer should have a minimum of 60% alcohol content, preferably 90%.  She advised against using communal pens and suggested using paper towels to touch knobs.

Miscellaneous

  • It was noted that pedestrians have the right of way in the parking lot.  With the increase in enrollment, the parking lots are full, and people do not always pay attention before crossing the lanes.
  • If anyone notices a child or animal in a car in the parking lot, call security.
  • Security will look into adding two channels to the handset to accommodate the channels Eastwood uses.

Announcements

The opportunity for employees to get seasonal flu shots is scheduled for 9/29/09.

Adjourn

With no further business being presented, the meeting was adjourned.  The next meeting will be held on October 2, 2009.
