Welcome & Overview

Aaron Crites, chair, welcomed the committee to the first safety meeting of the 2008-09 academic year.  Introductions were made, and the committee description from the appointment letter was read.

Emergency Preparedness Month

The safety committee is invited to a guest presentation by Graham Smart, of Miami Dade College.  It will be held September 24^th at 11am in the Community Room.  The presentation is made possible by additional money for the Schoolhouse Project to commemorate Emergency Preparedness Month.

Safety Plan

The safety plan has been moved from the internet to the intranet due to concerns about security. 

The President’s Cabinet is currently reviewing the plan to utilize the new perspectives available. Cabinet is also redoing Appendix A and the crisis management charts.  Administrators will also be supplied with a Red “Emergency Book” that contains contact information and safety information.

The safety committee is being asked to also review the plan in great detail.  Passages that do not mesh with our practices need to be eliminated, and any missing details need to be added.  A full review will occur during the next meeting.

Faculty and staff representatives need to get input from the groups they represent.

• A pamphlet for students was suggested
• Possible safety insert for adjunct faculty packets including safety links
• Include a syllabus statement in the plan for faculty to include, as well as guidelines for faculty to go over during the first class meeting—including Bogen instructions
• Jessie will look at expanding the plan to include identity theft.
