Welcome & Minutes

Aaron Crites, Chair, welcomed the committee to the meeting and thanked Eastwood VFD for hosting it. Minutes of the November 2008 meeting were approved.

Old  Business

Safety Fair

On 2/4/09 the blood mobile will be on campus and a safety fair will be held.  Ideas include tables for Eastwood, Red Cross, and stations on gun safety, self-defense, fire prevention, etc.

Student Engagement Hour

A safety awareness day is being scheduled in February by Student Services.  Students will be able to talk about concerns.  Suggestions for inclusion: how to report suspicious activity, bogen training, how to contact security.

Syllabus Statement

Aaron updated Cathy’s statement and submitted it to Rhonda Richards yesterday.  It included a disability statement.

Fire Drill

The state Fire Marshall gives us 5 minutes to evacuate and we took over 7.  Notes:

-          Laptops/bags- students need to take with them.  Need to mention during InService

-          Alarm shut down too fast

-          Speaker by activities center was weak

Cliff asked to be involved in the next drill, as indicated in the safety plan.

Shelter-in-Place

Concern was raised about a shelter-in-place being quick enough if Dupont, etc has an issue.  John Tharp stated that our location being about nine miles away and 180’ higher was to our advantage. 

A suggestion was made to look at having a location on each floor instead of just multipurpose room.  Aaron, John, Cliff, and Al will review and email suggestion to Michelle.
