Restricted Items

The facilities planning task force created a list of restricted items.  No open flames, such as candles, are permitted.  Items such as coffee pots, microwaves, and lamps must be checked and tagged by maintenance.  Safety committee members are asked to look for untagged items.

Eastwood Appreciation

In appreciation to Eastwood, a spring cookout was suggested.

Safety Cards

The prior version of the safety card has been updated.  The committee recommended distributing them in mail boxes, student orientation materials, and new hire packets.  Also contacting SGA and working with the Dean of Students to distribute to students was suggested, possibility with activities during engagement hour.  Also including a safety component during InService was recommended.

Safety Fair

On 2/4/09 the blood mobile will be on campus.  This would give an opportunity for a safety fair. Ideas include tables for Eastwood, Red Cross, and stations on gun safety, self-defense, fire prevention, etc.

Visitors

Concern was raised about a baby being in a lab setting.  The college does have a visitor policy (VII-11b) that outlines visitor access and behavior.

Threat Assessment Team

WVU has a threat assessment team, and they recommend our campus have one as well.  It will serve to keep track of incidents and tips in order to identify a pattern.  The Safety Committee supports the idea.

Evacuation Sheets

An idea was raised to include the paging codes on the white evacuation sheets.

Announcements

Willis, a Criminal Justice student, has gone above and beyond to help compile the MSDS sheets needed for the CJ lab. The safety committee will recognize him with a certificate.

The new driver training from BRIM is available to those who submitted their names before the deadline.  The test is broken into five sections and is expected to take around four hours to complete.

Testing of the Bogen system has been conducted.  JCC tested at 100%.  The Parkersburg system had an issue that has since been corrected.

Another multi-agency scenario is tentatively being planned for Spring Break.

Adjourn

With no further business being presented, the meeting was adjourned.  The next meeting will be held Friday, December 5th at 1pm at the Eastwood Volunteer Fire Department.
