Safety Committee Minutes
March 16, 2007
WVUP Community Room

Those present: Craig Rabatin, Joe Badgley, Charlene McNulty, Lennie Moore, Gary Waggoner, David White, Pam Clevenger

Minutes of the January 26, 2007 were approved.

Old Business

  • Safety Information for Adjuncts

            Charlene McNulty volunteered to prepare a Safety Information Sheet for adjunct faculty.

            Gary Waggoner suggested this could be placed in the Faculty Handbook under the adjunct section.

            Joe Badgley said this information should be covered at the adjunct faculty orientation.

  • Plates to cover alarm buttons

              Dave White has found covers that would cost $13 each, he will continue his search. The buttons
              have not been pushed in error recently.

  • Switchboard Training/Fire Alarm System

             Craig Rabatin stated that we should have a new switchboard operator within the next couple
            weeks and Connie Dziagwa will be over their training.

            Joe Badgley suggested someone should be in charge of knowing where our physically challenged
            students would be in case of a fire.

            Charlene McNulty said that everyone involved needs to be trained as to where the firewalls are
            located so faculty will know where to take their students. She noted that the students are to identify
            themselves to faculty and that they should take them to the firewall area.

            Dave White – Mentioned Cathy Mutz should have a list of the students with mobility issues. He also
            mentioned a  master list for these students’ schedules.

            Dave has received signage for “Safe Areas” that are red and white. He will have these signs posted in
            the stairwell areas in the near future.

            Charlene McNulty noted that not all students in wheel chairs may need contact with our Disability
            Services Office.

            Gary Waggoner suggested that faculty be told to use the “Button” in the classroom to identify exactly
            where a student would be in the building who needs assistance.

            This information should be added to the Emergency Evacuation Procedure, add to Charlene’s
            Adjunct information

            Sheet and be updated on the WVUP Fire Drill/Emergency Evacuation Procedure Cards.
            (Example of the card printed 6/06 was passed around for members to see)

 

  • The WVU Parkersburg Safety Plan

             Craig Rabatin noted that the numerous changes were in red print and that he felt everyone had not
            been given enough time to review it to approve the changes.

            Lennie Moore passed out copies of the working draft; however the changes that were printed in red
            did not show on the copies.

            Joe Badgley said that the new vaccinations (page 6) required for students needs to be added to the
            plan and also the Student Handbook. They are Mumps, Measles, Rubella and Meningitis.

            Charlene McNulty said that the First Aid Kits (page 6) that are needed for the Children’s Room,
            Cafeteria and Print

            Shop can be purchased with her wellness budget; they should all be the same to make restocking
            easier. The Building Coordinators should be checking these on regular basis.

            Charlene McNulty reported that an update has been ordered for our Automatic External Defibullator
            (AED) and that a training session (4 hrs.) will be needed. A list of attendees should be submitted to
            her. She has contacted Scott Dotson to do the training. He is available June 15th.  She would have to
            check his availability for other dates. Dr. David Avery will sign for the certification

            She noted that before training is done on the AED the people first have to be CPR certified. The date
            of May 10th was suggested for training. Charlene will try to arrange to have instructors for CPR;
            people who could do this are Cheryl Robinson, Scott Dotson, Nelson Ortiz and WVUP student,
            Tammy Cline. Charlene said if a fee for the trainers  is needed her wellness budget could pick up the
            cost. Some employees previously trained on the AED are; Al Collins, Tom Yencha, and Tim
            Beardsley.

            The AED is now located in the Security Office.

            Craig Rabatin noted that the Charts need to be reviewed for any name/personnel changes.

            He set a revision date of Thursday, March 22nd; everyone should read this latest working draft
            and send any revisions to Craig via email.
