Title: #IV-5. Emeritus Status
Date: December 15, 2006 (Replaces version dated January 21, 1986)
Any faculty member, upon retiring from a full-time tenured position at the college, may be named a member of the college's emeritus faculty at the time of retirement. Similarly, any member of the college's professional staff or administration, upon retiring from that position, may be named to emeritus status.
Conditions. Under normal circumstances, emeritus status shall be available to faculty retirees only if such persons have served as full-time faculty at the college for at least ten years and have been granted tenure. Professional staff and administrative retirees, though not eligible for tenure, shall normally not be considered for emeritus status unless they have served the college for at least a similar number of years.
Process. Nominations for emeritus status for retiring faculty shall normally come from faculty colleagues, directed through the appropriate divisional structure to the division chair. Nominations shall be forwarded to the Dean of Academic Affairs who will secure endorsements from the Dean's Council and the Faculty Senate before forwarding nominations to the President for final approval. Nominations for emeritus status for retiring professional staff or administrative persons shall normally come from staff or administrative colleagues, directed through college governance structure to the appropriate dean. The dean shall secure endorsements from any involved organization (i.e., Dean's Council, Faculty Senate, Staff Council) before forwarding the nomination to the President for final approval.
Rank. A faculty member granted emeritus status shall retire at the same rank that was held during the final years of appointment (i.e., Professor Emeritus, Associate Professor Emeritus, etc.). Professional staff and administrative persons who are granted emeritus status shall retain the same title they held during the final years of their service to the institution (i.e., Librarian Emeritus, Counselor Emeritus, Dean of Students Emeritus).
Listing. Persons granted emeritus status shall be listed in the directory portions of college catalogues under separate headings of Faculty Emeriti, Administration Emeriti, or Professional Staff Emeriti.
