New summer hours implemented to reduce utility costs

Beginning Monday, May 20, West Virginia University at Parkersburg will extend its daily public hours to 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Many offices such as the Student Welcome Center, financial aid, records and the non-traditional studies office will be open until 7 p.m. All college locations, including the Jackson County Center in Ripley, will be closed Friday through Sunday.

With the implementation of the new schedule, the college will see an approximate 10 percent savings in weekly utility costs, which amounts to $1,500 to $2,000 per week depending on the weather and other factors. In addition, the new extended morning and evening hours will help WVU Parkersburg better serve non-traditional, working students.

“With a large percentage of our population working full- or part-time, it can be difficult for those students to take care of enrollment, financial aid and other college processes during a typical work day,” said WVU Parkersburg President Dr. Marie Foster Gnage. “These summer hours will allow those individuals to stop in before or after work to get the services and personal attention they need.”

The temporary summer schedule will run through Friday, Aug. 2 with normal hours resuming the following Monday. Fall 2013 courses will begin Monday, Aug. 19.

Summer hours for the various college divisions will be as follows:
