Write for an Alien.
When you begin a writing project, whether a short email message to your
supervisor or a lengthy report that will be distributed throughout your
organization, remember that your readers may not have the same knowledge base as
you!
Don't assume that everyone who might read your report (or memo or letter)
will understand the issues as you do.
Even readers in your own industry (even your supervisor!) may not understand
all the jargon and terms with which you are so familiar.
When using technical terms or jargon, be sure to explain the reference the
first time you use it. If there is considerable reading available about
that term or topic, use a link to a separate web site or reference page that
gives the reader additional resources about the topic or term.
