Seeing Red:

What to do when the feedback you get makes you red in the face!

This is a message from me to you, my students.  When you get a paper returned with lots of red ink added, keep these ideas in mind.

If you are dismayed at "seeing red" on your returned papers, please realize that I try to be a REALLY GOOD TEACHER (LOL! You'll be the judge of that!) and give you specific feedback on both strengths and weaknesses of your writing.

Many students struggle with grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors.  These are no big deal, really, but the only way you can learn how to fix them is to know that the error exists.

I try to explain the error and suggest ways to fix it as I grade.  (This is why I get behind! Sometimes it takes a while to give you all that feedback!)

I also try to give you POSITIVE FEEDBACK and let you know how pleasing it is to see a really well-written paper.

Please don't be discouraged by the feedback.  Instead, take time to read the comments, look over the punctuation suggestions, and note the picky little details that I point out!

Then, DON'T DO IT AGAIN!  Ha ha!

Hopefully you will learn from my comments and try to correct the same types of errors in the next paper.

This is a LEARNING PROCESS!  You are supposed to get better and better throughout the semester.  Hang in there and keep your chin(s?) up!  :-)
