When typing a letter, use these guidelines for spacing. The goal is to have the body of the letter on the BOTTOM HALF of the page when it is printed. The trick is to put more spacing between the date and inside address. The date should always appear on about line 13, which will leave a 2 inch top margin. If the letterhead is unusually large, drop the date so that it is a double space (1 blank line) below the letterhead.
February 10, 2002 (on line 13) (4-10 Blank lines) Mr. James Jones 123 Any Street Ripley, WV 25271 (Double space) Dear Mr. Jones: (Double space) BODY OF LETTER. Single space paragraphs. Double space between paragraphs. (Double space) Sincerely yours, (3 Blank lines) Miss Pamela A. Braden Director, Jackson County Center (Double space) PAB:xxx (Double space) Enclosure (if there is one) |
