Welcome to Professor Pam's Home Page

ABOUT ME:

What I love and am passionate about =  My Favorite Things:

·         Teaching.  I know it’s “as corny as Kansas in August,” but I really do feel a calling to teach.   I love to:

o   Create new courses.

o   Improve our B&E Division curriculum.

o   Create new projects and ways to improve learning.

·         Reading.   I love to lose myself in “who done it” novels.  I really love novels that have the same characters like Stephanie Plum, Alex Delaware, and Jack Reacher.

o   I always think the book is better than the movie.

o   I loved the Harry Potter series because the imagery is so real and the fantasy concepts are so well developed.   The HP movies are almost as good as the books, but my imagination is usually better than the special effects!

·         Watching TV.    I was a Baby Boomer baby who grew up with the TV on.  I am seriously addicted!  I waste way too much time watching TV.

o   Favorite show of all time:  The X Files.  (The Truth is Out There!)

o   Favorite current shows:  Grey’s Anatomy and Lost!  I would totally marry Saied on Lost!  :-)  I also watch a lot of Food Network shows even though I can't cook!

·         Eating (these might NOT be in order, now that I think about it. . . )  Chocolate, cheesecake, white birthday cake with white icing, steak, seafood. . .

·         Gadgets.  I am definitely a gadget guru.  I’m an early adopter of new technology and am easily influenced by advertising!  I can’t watch infomercials or I will buy every dumb new thing that is on there!

·         My Puppy Polly.  My pretty, precious, perfect princess puppy Polly.   She’s not really a puppy anymore, but the alliteration doesn’t work with dog.  She is fun and silly and always makes me smile.   I have had a dog most of my life.   (Check out my pix of Polly on my Facebook page and become my friend if you have one too!)

·         Advertising.  I love watching ads, thinking about how they influence buying decisions, analyzing their effectiveness, and seeing the creativity that goes into them.  My students often say that I teach advertising, no matter what I’m teaching.

·         Football.  The fall can’t come around too soon for me!  WVU, Marshall (my alma mater), the pros, any college team except for Notre Dame!

·         A challenge.  If you tell me I can’t do something, I’ll prove you wrong!  I am very competitive and want to win at everything I do.  Beside the word “Type A” in the dictionary is my picture!

o   Accreditation of the business programs.  This is my biggest challenge right now.  As a small college with a small faculty and budget, this will definitely be a challenge, but I am up for it!

·         Travel.  I love to go places, see new things.  I’ve been to England and Ireland (separate trips) and want to go to France and Italy and. . .   everywhere.

·         Antiques.  I have a 100-year-old house that is full of junque and antiques.  I love the hunt, finding a bargain, and preserving stuff.   There is some sort of weird balance that I find in preserving antique typewriters (one of my many collectibles) and working on my laptop!

Things I dislike or wish I didn’t have to deal with:

·         Being bored.  It’s good that I am easily entertained, because I really hate to be bored.

·         Grading papers.  Because this task ends up being the same thing over and over again, I lose interest quickly!

·         Asthma and allergies.  I am allergic to everything inside and outside!  I hate it but try to manage it by staying away from yucky stuff and taking the meds.  I really dislike the meds.

·         Cleaning house.  I love to decorate and play with my house, but cleaning is just plain boring and unpleasant.
