Lab Usage Regulations:

The computers in Rooms 301, 303 and in the Learning Center Computer Lab (Room 111) are available for student use.

Staffing:

  1. Our JCC Lab Technicians are available to assist computer users with troubleshooting hardware or software problems and to answer questions when appropriate. Please check the posted lab schedule to see when the lab staff will be on duty.
  2. Other lab staff members are available as posted on the lab schedule.
  3. Other "open lab" hours are available for using computers, but no technical assistance is available during those hours.

Safety/Security:

  1. Children are not permitted in the lab at any time. The college's liability insurance does not cover children of students, so it is also inappropriate to have children waiting for parents in college lounges.
  2. No food or drinks are permitted in the lab. The potential for damaging or destroying a computer, keyboard, or other hardware is too great when liquids and food are present. Please do your part to keep our lab "up and running."
  3. Students need to exit both the lab and the building by the posted closing times. Please finish printing and closing down your computer at least 15 minutes before the building is scheduled to close. Respect the schedules of our staff members who must secure the building at closing time.
  4. If equipment is not functioning properly, do not attempt to fix it yourself. Please ask the lab technician for assistance or move to another machine.
  5. The JCC Administrative Office Staff members are not prepared to provide technical assistance in the lab. If the lab technician is not available, it may be necessary to return at another time.

Printing Privileges

  1. The printers in the computer labs are to be used to print documents for college classes only.  There should be no personal use of printers.
  2. While typing a paper for a college class, please save the paper to your zip or other disk before printing a draft copy.  When you do print a draft copy, please make all changes needed before reprinting the document.
  3. While doing research for a class project, you may wish to print pages from the Internet for your reference later.  Please print only those pages that will enable you to get the bibliographic information later.
  4. Please do not print more than 3 pages of any document from the Internet.
  5. Print to File.  If you need the content of an entire (long) document from the Internet, try using the "Print to file" option and save the document to your zip disk.
  6. Copy and Paste.  If you need only a section of material from a particular site on the Internet, try using the "copy and paste" option to save the material in a word processing file on your zip or other disk.  That way you can access the material later, edit it, and print only those pages that are essential.

User Responsibilities:

  1. Please do not tamper with the hard drive on any machine or attempt to break the system’s security mechanism.
  2. Do not attempt to copy any other student’s work or any of the software available in the lab.
  3. It is your responsibility to bring the proper disk with you when you come to class or the lab.  Most computers at the JCC are equipped with zip and 3 1/2" high density drives.
  4. Do not save files on the hard drive; save only in A: drive.  Zip drives are also provided for storage of large files of course work.
  5. At no time should you attempt to copy software from the computer lab hard drives onto a zip disk.
  6. When you are finished using the computer for the day, please do NOT close down the computer.
    1. Collect all disks from the computer drives.
    2. Turn off only the monitor.
    3. Clean up your work area before departing. Throw away extra papers.
