Q: What do I use to take a Floating
Holiday?
A: Under "select a leave type" - it is
the third one from the bottom – Personal
Time Taken.
Q: When do I have to take my floating
holiday (Personal Time)?
A: You must take your floating holiday
between July 1st and June 30th
or you will lose it.
Q: How do I find out if I have taken my
floating holiday (Personal Time)?
A: On the Leave Request page, click on
"Start Lookup", enter your employee number,
click on "Retrieve Employee Information",
click on "View Your Leave Calendar" – this
will bring up the current month and show any
leave requests, you may click on "Previous"
and go back through the year to July 1st
to see if you have taken your floating
holiday (Personal Time Taken). Or you may
call Nancy Hindy at ext. 290 and she can tell you.
Q: I want to use the FMLA.
A: West Virginia University complies with
leave and retention requirements of the
Family Medical Leave Act. The FMLA provides
eligible employees up to 12 weeks of unpaid
absence for a variety of reasons related to
family and medical care. This time may be
paid or unpaid, as appropriate for the
employee's terms of employment and accrued
leave hours. Employees are eligible for FLMA
leave if they have worked at WVU for at
least twelve months for a minimum of 1,250
hours during the calendar year preceding the
start of the leave. Please contact the
Medical Management staff for more
information on this subject: (medicalmanagement@mail.wvu.edu
). You must
first complete the forms and receive
permission to take FMLA.
Q: I have jury duty coming up – how do I
handle that?
A: Complete the leave request – under
"Select the Leave Type" click on "Jury
Duty", put in the dates for time you spend
in jury duty. Then give the Human Resources
Office copies of any paper work sent to you
by the court requesting you to serve as a
juror.
Q: I submitted a request for 8 hours on
annual leave was that wrong? Do I have to
correct it?
A: Yes, it was incorrect. Our work day is
7.50 hours. Yes, you should correct it or
you will lose that half an hour of
annual leave.
Q: I ask for a full day of annual leave
off but ended up only taking 3.50 hours. How
do I correct this?
Q: How will I know if my supervisor
approves my leave?
A: You will receive an e-mail stating it
was approved or denied.
Q: What if my supervisor doesn’t approve
or deny my leave request?
A: Please check with them if you do not
get an e-mail either approving or denying
your leave request. Otherwise the request is
just "pending" and your leave record is incorrect.
Q: When does our accumulation for annual
leave and sick leave show up in our leave
account?
A: Your accumulation is added for the
first half of the month (1st
through the 15th) after the 15th.
It is added for the second half of the month
(16th through the last day of the
month) after the last day of the month.
Q: If I’m carrying my full accumulation
of annual leave into the next pay period,
will I lose a day?
A: Yes. Never carry your full
accumulation of annual leave or you will
lose a day when you start the next pay cycle.
Q: Is there a limit on the amount of sick
leave I can accumulate?
