Distinguished Performance Series presents Comedy in Motion with Dan Kamin Thursday, March 26 at 7 p.m. in the College Activities Center. Dan Kamin trained Robert Downey Jr. for his Oscar-nominated performance in Chaplin and created Johnny Depp’s comedy moves for Benny and Joon. He performs worldwide in theatres and with symphony orchestras. Comedy in Motion Dan lampoons smarmy magicians, pompous divas, texting drivers and “other annoying people who try my patience and risk my life.” Come find out why Dan’s been called “demented, charming and brilliant.” Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. West Virginia University at Parkersburg students may purchase special advance tickets for themselves and one guest for $2 each in the business office (8 am – 4 pm). KID’S CAKE DECORATING CLASS. Join us at WVU Parkersburg for our Children’s Cake Decorating Class, Saturday, April 11 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the College Activities Center. This fun 2 hour class will demonstrate basic techniques and assist while kids practice on their own 6 inch cake and a Witon Icing Fun Sampler Kit to use and take home. The program is for ages 6 to 11. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. The adult may participate with their child during the class. Cost is $20 per child. Contact J.B. WHY THEATRE MATTERS SERIES. The Humanities Speaker Series and the College Theater are co-hosting a special event series titled “Why Theatre Matters.” These are free and open to the public with two events scheduled for Monday, April 6. A panel discussion titled “Why Write Plays?” will feature Mickey Kessler, a playwright and faculty member at Washington State Community College, and Jason Halbleib, a playwright and faculty member at WVU Parkersburg. A question and answer session will follow the panelists’ presentations. This one-hour program takes place at 12:30 p.m. in the college theatre (Room 1305).

An evening event on April 6 will be a playwriting workshop on “The Creative Process” led by Halbleib, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Room 2209.

WASPER is now bringing its recycling services to WVU Parkersburg on a regular basis. On the first Sunday and Monday of every month, the Wasper​ truck will be accepting household recyclables, including electronics, at the theatre loading dock from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. The service begins this Sunday, March 1. PICKLEBALL OPEN PLAY starts March 1. Games run every Sunday (except May 17 & 24) through June 21 in the College Activities Center. Cost is $5 per day, $3 per day Senior Rate (55+), $35 for a Regular Season Pass or $25 for a Senior Rate Season Pass. There are 3 courts available each week. SYMPATHY NOTE. The college campus extends its sympathies to staff member Bethel Peck whose mother Charlotte Eileen Brookover, 86, of the Winding Heights Community, passed away Jan. 14, 2015, at her home. The funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Jefferson Baptist Temple. Once approved by the Career Services Office, employers can post jobs, search resumes and more.
