Date(s) - 02/11/2014
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
West Virginia University at Parkersburg will host Holocaust survivor and author Marion Blumenthal Lazan for a presentation at 2:00 p.m. on February 11, in the College Theatre. The presentation will also be be broadcast by interactive video transmission to the Jackson County Center.
Lazan will take the audience behind the barbed wire to describe in detail what life was like as a nine-year-old child interned with her family in the German concentration camp of Bergen-Belsen, the same camp in which Anne Frank died. She will explain the events leading up to her family’s incarceration and its life-challenging aftermath. Lazan’s message is not one of despair, but one of tolerance and understanding in a still-troubled world.
Author of the award-winning book Four Perfect Pebbles, Lazan will stay for a book signing following the presentation. Copies of the book will be available for purchase in the Barnes and Noble Bookstore on the Parkersburg campus in advance as well as at the signing.
This presentation is sponsored by the WVU at Parkersburg Social Justice Committee in collaboration with Jackson Middle School and is free and open to the public. Professors may want to consider offering class credit in certain disciplines for attending this presentation. A sign-in sheet will be provided to document attendance for that purpose.
