Public relations students at West Virginia University Parkersburg are sponsoring a Bright Ideas Energy Efficiency Expo on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the College Activities Center. Exhibitors will showcase products and services for cutting home utility costs and increasing energy efficiency by reducing energy consumption.

Exhibitors include: Simonton Windows, Pickering Energy Solutions, LLC., Groggs Heating and Cooling, Superior Solutions of West Virginia, State Electric Supply, WVU Parkersburg Environmental Action Group, Community Resources, Inc,. Energy Efficient West Virginia, and Parkersburg High School Solar Energy Club.

Dr. Charles “Chip” Pickering, founder of Pickering Associates, will be the featured speaker for the event. Pickering has managed electrical and multi-disciplined projects for many of the firms located in the Mid-Ohio Valley. Pickering interests include sustainable design and construction, solar energy, project management, and teaching and passing on the knowledge he has gained from others.

Visitors will see many of the area’s businesses and organizations display their products, services and helpful tips in a fun and energetic atmosphere. The event will feature food, music, door-prizes, a live radio remote by V96.9 and much more. Guests can take an energy efficiency quiz on the Bright Ideas Facebook page to enter to win one of two mini iPads (must be present to win).

The Bright Ideas Energy Project is a service learning project performed by the public relations students at WVU Parkersburg. Their hope is to utilize the skills learned in the journalism program to raise awareness of home energy efficiency in the Mid-Ohio Valley. Their only reward for their dedication is the satisfaction of improving their community by both increasing homeowners’ energy efficiency knowledge and decreasing the demand for nonrenewable resources.

Bright Ideas is funded in part by the Wood County Commission. Learn more about Bright Ideas on Facebook at www.facebook.com/WVUPbright or at www.brightiedasenergyexpo.org.
