West Virginia University at Parkersburg will celebrate National Poetry Month with a reading from poet Jonathon Minton on Monday, April 29 from 12:20 – 12:50 p.m. in the college theater (room 1305). He will read from his new book titled, “Technical Notes for Bird Government.” The event is free and open to the public.

Minton lives in central West Virginia, where he is the director of the Honors Program and associate professor of English at Glenville State College. His chapbooks include “Lost Languages (Long Leaf Press) and “In Gesture” (Dyad Press). His poetry and reviews have appeared in the Asheville Poetry Review, Drunken Boat, Coconut, Eratio, Columbia Poetry Review, Reconfigurations, Free Verse, among other journals, and in the anthologies “Oh One Arrow” (Flim Forum), “Poems for Peace” (Structa Press) and “Crazed by the Sun” (Cyberwit Press). He edits the journal Word For/Word.

Students will learn basic welding procedures and techniques to complete common around the house, garage or farm repairs. Students are required to provide basic personal protection equipment (PPE) used in the workplace or shop.
Required PPE items include a welding jacket, welding hood/shield, safety glasses or side shields for Rx eyewear, boots and gloves. Long pants and long sleeves are also required. Tools needed for the class include a 4 or 6-inch grinder with cut-off wheels and grinding wheels, slag/chipping hammer, side cut pliers or ‘welpers,’ crescent wrench and/or channel locks.
Class dates: Monday, April 8, 15, 22, 29 and May 6 &13
