This 100-hour comprehensive program will provide a foundation of medical vocabulary while also training students to handle the increasing complexities of healthcare management. Learning how to be a medical billing and coding specialist will give you a competitive edge in the healthcare field. Upon completion of this course, students will be prepared to sit for the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam to become a Certified Medical Coder.

West Virginia University at Parkersburg’s student environmental group, the Ecohawks, will host an Earth Day celebration on Monday, April 22, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the College Activities Center. The event is free and open to the public.

There will be reading and coloring stations, tree and vegetable seedling giveaways, educational games, a Smokey Bear meet-and-greet and more! Guests will also have the chance to view screenings of “The Toxic Tour” presented by Lyons and “The Sequel” presented by the Mid-Ohio Valley Climate Action Group.

Other individuals, groups and organizations providing environmental resources and materials include: Friends of the Lower Muskingum, Keep Wayne Wild, C8 specialist and author Callie Lyons, Mid-Ohio Valley Climate Action, Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge, Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, pollinator garden specialist Rebecca Phillips, Raccoon Creek Conservation group (AmeriCorps) and the West Virginia Division of Forestry.

Garage Welding

Students will learn basic welding procedures and techniques to complete common around the house, garage or farm repairs. Students are required to provide basic personal protection equipment (PPE) used in the workplace or shop.
Required PPE items include a welding jacket, welding hood/shield, safety glasses or side shields for Rx eyewear, boots and gloves. Long pants and long sleeves are also required. Tools needed for the class include a 4 or 6-inch grinder with cut-off wheels and grinding wheels, slag/chipping hammer, side cut pliers or ‘welpers,’ crescent wrench and/or channel locks.
Class dates: Monday, April 8, 15, 22, 29 and May 6 &13
