While JPEG images are suitable for most purposes, photography enthusiasts and professionals prefer more control over how each image is processed. Therefore, many high-end cameras can shoot in RAW mode in addition to JPEG. The raw files are unprocessed, allowing the photographer to adjust settings like exposure, white balance and saturation after the image is captured. While JPEGs are used for many purposes…transferring images, printing, emailing, and more…a RAW file is used to “capture” a larger amount of data within the camera.

In this class, students will learn the difference between JPEGs and RAW files; the pros and cons of each type of file; how to set a camera to photograph in RAW and how to convert a RAW file to a JPEG. Exposure, white balance, contrast, saturation and other terms will be explained. Students should bring their camera, user manual, and a laptop with photo-editing software if available.

Pre-registration is required.
