Course Cost: $2,000

Program Requirements: Current immunizations, criminal background check, drug testing and clean close-toed shoes and scrubs. This is a 100-hour course onto the nursing career ladder. Direct Care Workers are trained to care for people who need assistance in their homes and in accessing community activities and services. The competencies required to complete course objectives are identified from the Skill Standards produced by the West Virginia Department of Education, Health Sciences Division, and the Working group of the West Virginia Partnership for Elder Living. DCW Certification test upon successful completion of the course.

Course Objectives:

  • Administer bedside or personal care
  • Prepare and maintain records of client progress and services performed, reporting changes in client condition to manager or supervisor.
  • Perform housekeeping duties, such as cooking, cleaning, washing clothes or dishes, or running errands.
  • Care for individuals or families during periods of incapacitation, family disruption, or convalescence, providing companionship, personal care, or help in adjusting to new lifestyles.
  • Perform healthcare-related tasks, such as monitoring vital signs and medication, under the direction of registered nurses or physiotherapists.
  • Plan, shop for, or prepare nutritious meals or assist families in planning, shopping for, or preparing nutritious meals.
  • Transport clients to locations outside the home, such as to physicians’ offices or on outings, using a motor vehicle.
  • Instruct and advise clients on issues such as household cleanliness, utilities, hygiene, nutrition, or infant care.
  • Train family members to provide bedside care

This is a Community Education Class provided by West Virginia University at Parkersburg to offer you fun and affordable learning opportunities. You don’t need to be a student of the college to register.

This photography class teaches good composition and how it will improve the quality of photos. It will cover simple ways to improve them by applying the rules of composition and using different lenses. Students must bring Cameras, additional lenses (if they have any), and the camera’s user manual(s).. – - Class Cost $25

This class has a one-time $25.00 fee and three 2.5-hour sessions, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on the following dates:
1) Nov. 1
2) Nov. 8
3) Nov. 15

Each class will be in the WVU Parkersburg Workforce & Economic Development Building in Room B100C.
