Regularly enrolled students may apply to receive credit-by-examination in certain courses offered by the College. Credit-by-examination is available by either of two processes: taking the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams, which are prepared by the College Board, or taking in-house tests prepared by faculty of the College.
College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP)
CLEP offers the opportunity to demonstrate college-level learning by taking exams that assess the knowledge and skills taught in college courses. This knowledge may have been gained from on-the-job experience, purposeful reading, correspondence courses, adult education or televised courses.
In-House exams are available for a variety of courses. Before taking and In-House exam, the matter must be discussed with the appropriate Division Chair. Then the Credit-by-Examination form should be completed at the Records Office (Rm. 1110).
Career Exploration Tests
WVU at Parkersburg offers career exploration inventories that are designed to help students determine how their interests relate to those of individuals currently employed in various career fields. Administered by appointment only, these tests are free to WVU Parkersburg students.
Other tests are available through the Student Development Center including American College Testing exam, Pre-Professional Skills Tests, Plumbers and Steamfitters exam and Automotive Service Excellence exam. All exams are administered through WVU Parkersburg.
