Applications are now open for the 2015 Jan Dils Walk4Vets Scholarship, sponsored by the WVU at Parkersburg Foundation and the Veterans Corps. The scholarship provides area veterans with the funds and resources needed to better their careers through an education at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
Named in honor of Jan Dils, the scholarship recognizes her service to help veterans and their families obtain VA benefits and give back to veterans in the community through her charity event, Walk4Vets. The scholarship program serves veterans of the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard and National Guard.
“Our Walk4Vets Foundation proudly honors veterans and the sacrifice and service they make to ensure the freedoms and liberties for all Americans,” said Jan Dils. “We are privileged to support veterans through our work here at the law firm and in the continuance of their educational endeavors and wish them health, happiness and success.”
Jan Dils Walk4Vets scholarships are valued at $1,000. Applications are available at the main WVU Parkersburg campus in the foundation office, room 1107. The deadline to apply is Thursday, April 23.
To be eligible, applicants must be a veteran that has been accepted for admissions or is already enrolled and pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree. Criteria includes a 3.0 GPA, 20 volunteer hours and a one-page essay (minimum 750 words) stating how the scholarship will benefit the educational goals of the applicant.
