WVU Parkersburg’s teacher preparation program emphasizes the practical model. The model focuses on the theoretical, development, and technological aspects of the knowledge base that are prerequisites to the daily demands required to be a professional educator in a school environment.
The program’s philosophical framework, Architects of the Future, prepares an educator who applies his/her skills and knowledge to shape and construct the future by educating tomorrow’s leaders…today’s children and youth. The framework is supported by six specific, yet interrelated components:

Careers

The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education qualifies students to be eligible to receive certification to teach in kindergarten through sixth grade classrooms in the state of West Virginia. Specialization endorsements are added on to the K-6 degree and qualify students to be certified to teach in the area of specialization.

The paraprofessional certificate qualifies students to be classroom aides, classroom paraprofessionals and special education aides
