Why Pharm Tech at WVU Parkersburg?
This program prepares qualified individuals to function as pharmacy technicians under the supervision of licensed pharmacists. As an integral member of the pharmacy staff, the pharmacy technician utilizes appropriate techniques and procedures to prepare and dispense medications in both the community and institutional pharmacy settings. The pharmacy technician also maintains patient profiles and manages inventory.
Through a combination of classroom presentations, campus laboratory practice and clinical experiences, the student will develop a knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the pharmacy technician in the safe preparation and delivery of medications to patients. Clinical and community practice experiences are under licensed pharmacist supervision at local hospital and retail pharmacies. Since the Pharm Tech program began in 2008, it’s graduates have boasted a 100 percent pass rate on the Pharmacy Technician National Certification Exam.
