Phi Theta Kappa members honored at regional convention
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Parkersburg, W.Va. 4/19/12 – Last month, West Virginia University at Parkersburg's Phi Theta Kappa Sigma Omega chapter returned from the 33rd regional convention in Roanoke, Va. with several awards and honors.
Sigma Omega has been a distinguished chapter for the past 15 years, and this year was no exception. Along with that designation, the chapter won third place for its Scholarships in Education program. As part of the project, the students are preparing a brochure to share with WVU Parkersburg students to assist them in locating scholarship opportunities. Phi Theta Kappa was also awarded the chapter the travel award for logging the most miles, which earned them a registration to the international convention in Nashville.
Erica Folden and Cindie Garbett-Menges were added to the Phi Theta Kappa Wall of Honor, and Folden was named outstanding chapter member. Faculty advisor Alita Sellers received the Horizon Award for new advisors. Additionally, the chapter was recognized for service in areas of recycling, community service, and its work on the Save the Child project and Relay for Life.
