WVU Parkersburg freshmen score highest ACT composite score.

West Virginia University at Parkersburg freshmen students had the highest average ACT composite score of all freshmen at state community colleges, according to recently released state data.

The American College Testing's "High School-to-College Success" report noted that WVU Parkersburg freshmen scored an average ACT composite of 19.6.  The data is compiled from 2007-2008 -- the most recent available.  The report was provided to the state's Higher Education Policy Commission.

WVU Parkersburg had the largest freshmen class with 280 of the state's community colleges. 

"These statistics allow us to evaluate how well students are prepared for success in pursuing higher education opportunities," noted Rhonda Richards, senior vice president for academic affairs at WVU Parkersburg.

Other average ACT composite scores at WV community colleges included New River Community and Technical College, 18.5; WV Southern Community and Technical College, 18.4; WV Northern Community and Technical College, 18.2; Blue Ridge Community and Technical College, 18.0; Bridgemont Community and Technical College, 17.7; Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College, 17.5; Pierpont Community and Technical College, 17.5; Eastern Community and Technical College, 16.9, and MountWest Community and Technical College, 16.9.

In addition, WVU Parkersburg's freshmen averaged the fifth highest cumulative grade point average of institutions within the WV Community and Technical College system.
