WVU Parkersburg Spring Commencement to be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 15, 2010.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

West Virginia University at Parkersburg's 39th annual Commencement exercises will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, (May 15), in the College Activities Center.

Commencement speaker will be Richard M. (Rick) Adams, Jr., president of United Bank, Inc. and executive vice president of United Bankshares, Inc. 

The Class of 2010 includes 324 candidates for graduation who will receive approximately 390 degrees and certificates.  Participating in the ceremonies will be 120 members of the graduating class.

WVU Parkersburg President Marie Foster Gnage will preside over the ceremony.  A reception for all of the graduates and their families will follow the Commencement exercises.

Adams is president of United Bank, Inc., the lead banking franchise of United Bankshares, Inc. and is also executive vice president of United Bankshares, Inc., a multi-state bank holding company doing business in Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC.  United Bank, Inc. is located in West Virginia and Ohio, with 55 locations and more than 1,000 employees.  He is also responsible for Wealth Management activities for all UBSI subsidiary banks.  In addition, he oversees all UBSI litigation matters.

An adjunct professor at WVU Parkersburg where he teaches business law, Adams is a past chairman of the WV Bankers Association and a past chairman of the WV Bankers Trust Division. He is a member of the American Bankers Association Grassroots Committee, the Young Presidents’ Organization, the WV State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.  He serves as a board member of Energy Services of America Corporation, Vision Shared, Inc., and The Education Alliance.   He also serves on several local charitable and community development boards.

 Prior to joining UBSI, Rick practiced law with the firm of Bowles, Rice, McDavid, Graff, and Love. He received his undergraduate degree from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL and his law degree from Washington and Lee University School of Law in Lexington, VA.

On Friday (May 14), Nursing candidates for graduation will participate in the college's annual Pinning ceremonies at 7 p.m. in the College Activities Center.  A reception will follow the ceremony.
