WVU Parkersburg hosting Partnerships in Education luncheon

WVU Parkersburg to host "Partners in Education" luncheon to be held Friday (Nov. 7, 2008).

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Approximately 300 representatives from Wood County elementary and secondary schools and area business and industry will celebrate their partnerships at a luncheon to be held at noon, Friday (Nov. 7), in the multi-purpose room at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.

The annual "Partners in Education" luncheon is presented by the Education Committee of the Chamber of Commerce of the Mid-Ohio Valley. The luncheon provides an opportunity to recognize the county-wide community outreach program that fosters business-school partnerships, volunteer projects and support activities to enhance the quality of students' educational experiences.

The Partners program began in 1985. Wood County was the first in the state to have 100% of its schools partnered with a business or industry. The Chamber of Commerce was instrumental in making the matches and continues an active role in the program.
