WVU Parkersburg to host Open House for Adults April 28, 2008.

CONTACT:  Dr. Danita Brown, interim dean of students, 304-424-8209.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

West Virginia University at Parkersburg will host a free open house Monday, April 28, for adults considering college.

Purpose of the session is to provide information to adults about the educational opportunities WVU Parkersburg has to offer.  Hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. in the college's multi-purpose room.

The session is designed for adults interested in enrolling in individual classes to enhance their skills or in pursuing degree programs specifically for adults, including associate degrees, certificates and bachelor's degrees.  Financial aid information will be available as well.

"The average age of our students is 26," noted Danita Brown, interim dean of students.  "More and more adults are exploring the options available to them to advance in their careers, re-enter the workforce, pursue personal and professional development or prepare for retirement."

WVU Parkersburg offers classes and specific assistance to adults and other non-traditional students who are returning to a college learning environment after a number of years or beginning pursuit of college classwork for the first time, she added.

"We recognize that adult students often juggle classes, jobs and family responsibilities.  "Many of our credit and non-credit offerings feature flexible start times, alternate delivery modes and internet options," she said.

"Our goal is to provide adult learners with the educational options and support tools they need to be successful in the classroom and in their life pursuits."

Representatives from the college's academic area, Corporate and Community Education Division, and Student Services will provide information and answer questions. Also, current WVU Parkersburg adult students will be available to share their experiences.

Additional information is available by contacting the Student Services office, 424-8209.
