FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A business technology major at West Virginia University at Parkersburg's Jackson County Center has been selected to the All-USA Academic Second Team for Community and Junior Colleges.
JoAnn Norman of Evans was selected from more than 1,500 nominations to the academic team.
The annual program recognizes outstanding community college students. Twenty first-team members receive a trophy and a $2,500 cash award. Forty runners-up are selected for the second and third teams.
More than 1,500 students from 849 community colleges in 50 states and beyond were nominated for the award. The selection process is administered by Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for two-year colleges.
Formal announcement of the All-USA Academic Teams was made at the PTK Presidents Breakfast held during the American Association of Community College's annual convention in Philadelphia. A delegation of WVU Parkersburg faculty, staff and students, including Ms. Norman, attended the award ceremony.
A full-page article appeared in USA Today on April 7 announcing the first, second and third team awardees.
