Grantwriting Basics Workshop Offered February 1 at WVU Parkersburg.CONTACT: Martha Leeson, Corporate and Community Education office, 304.424.8275.FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEGrantwriting Basics, an introduction for the new grantwriter and a refresher for those who are skill-polishing, will be held Friday (Feb. 1), at West Virginia University at Parkersburg. The class will meet from 9 a.m. to noon.
An afternoon class, Preparing a Grant Application, will go into depth and work through an actual narrative and budget for a sample grant project. It will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. and include a visit to the college library and its Foundation Center collection.
Instructor is Lisa Collins, owner of Collins Public Relations. Collins directed arts councils in West Virginia and Ohio, including Artsbridge, for 17 years, and raised over $5 million in grants during her years as an arts administrator. For the past four years, she has continued to assist non-profits with successful grantseeking efforts, as she provides public relations and communications services to area businesses and marketing/advertising firms.
Topics to be covered include:
research and identification of appropriate sources; preparing the required documentation for your organization to be grant-ready; developing relationships with potential funders; understanding the terminology and completing the paperwork; clements of a narrative; Creating a clear budget, and tracking and evaluation methods.Fee for the class is $55 per class for the first person from an organization, $45 for each additional person registered. Those who register for both morning and afternoon classes will receive the $10 discount as well. A box lunch is available to be ordered with registration for those who are attending both classes.
