WVU Parkersburg captures third place overall and in individual events at WV Intercollegiate Forensics Association state tournament.

West Virginia University at Parkersburg's forensics team captured third place overall and third place in individual events at the West Virginia Intercollegiate Forensics Association state tournament held on the Parkersburg campus this past weekend (Feb. 22-23).

Six West Virginia college teams vied for honors at the annual tournament.  Alderson-Broaddus College took first place honors and Shepherd University received second place overall.

WVU Parkersburg students participating in the tourney included Megan Graham of Parkersburg who won first place in persuasion.  She has qualified for the Interstate Oratorical Association. Those who qualify are the top 100 persuasive speakers in the nation. The 2008 competition will be held in Madison, WI, April 25-26.

Other WVU Parkersburg students in the tourney included Brittany Huffman of Parkersburg, second place, Pentathlon Speaker; sixth place, Program Oral Interpretation; fourth place, Dramatic Interpretation; first place, Prose Interpretation; third place, Impromptu Speaking; fifth place, Persuasion, and third place, Informative Speaking; Jon Corra of Parkersburg, first place, After Dinner Speaking; Paul Pranski of Cottageville, fourth place,  Poetry Interpretation; Rebecca McClung of Parkersburg, fifth place, Program Oral Interpretation, and Monica Rader of Parkersburg, contributing sweeps points to team.

In addition to WVU Parkersburg, Alderson-Broaddus and Shepherd, institutions participating in the tourney included  Fairmont State University, Marshall University, and Ohio Valley University.
