FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The first meeting of the West Virginia University at Parkersburg Board of Governors will be held at 5:45 p.m., Wednesday (Sept. 10) in the college's multi-purpose room.

The meeting is open to the public.  Members of the board will be sworn in by Fourth Judicial Circuit Judge J.D. Beane.  The board will also nominate and elect a chair and other officers.

WVU Parkersburg's new localized governance structure is the result of legislation which created a statewide network of independently accredited community and technical colleges, including WVU Parkersburg.  As part of House Bill 3215, WVU Parkersburg is now governed by the local 12-member Board of Governors.

Board of Governors' lay members include Cindy Bullock, Keith Burdette, Joe Campbell, Gerard El Chaar, William H. Hopkins, Curtis P. Miller, Kennad L. Skeen II, Gregory K. Smith, and Rock Wilson.  Constituent representatives are Gregg Busch (faculty), Violet Mosser (classified staff), and Kim Starkey (student).

In effect July 1, the legislation provides that WVU Parkersburg may maintain and continue its association with West Virginia University.  It also recognizes the Parkersburg campus as a higher education center offering community college programs and bachelor's degrees.
