WVU Parkersburg elementary education degree adds new certification.

West Virginia University at Parkersburg has received state approval to offer a new certification in its Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education.
WV State Superintendent of Schools Steven Paine notified the college of approval by the West Virginia Board of Education for WVU Parkersburg to add the Early Education Pre-Kindergarten to Kindergarten (PK-K) certification.By adding the certification to its teacher preparation program, WVU Parkersburg will be positioned to meet the needs of school districts in the region, college officials noted.
"We are pleased to add this certification to our elementary education bachelor's degree," said Dr. Rhonda Richards, executive dean for academic affairs. "It will give elementary education majors another certification option to choose as part of their teacher preparation."Teachers currently working in school districts may also add this endorsement to their existing certification, she noted.
The college's Education Division also offers a certification in Multi-Subject Kindergarten-Grades 6 with specializations in English, Grades 5-9; General Math-Algebra I; General Science, Grades 5-9; Math Specialist, Kindergarten-Grades 4, and Social Studies Grades 5-9.The elementary education degree is one of six bachelor's degrees offered by WVU Parkersburg.
