Bill Sands of Parkersburg, who teaches wood technology classes at WVU Parkersburg, is profiled in a section on “America’s Top Shops.”
The article, “Grasping at Saws – The everything-in-easy-reach workshop,” details how Sands spent 10 years of planning and four years of outfitting his home woodworking shop. The seven-page article includes photos of his shop and project diagrams of items he has constructed for his shop, including a tote box and dovetail jig workbench.
A retired research technician, Sands also teaches hand tool and joinery classes at the Parkersburg Woodcraft store. He talks about what he enjoys in teaching his craft. “I like to see the light come on as the students grasp the concept I am explaining or demonstrating," the article quotes Sands. "The big smiles are great when they have the opportunity to put their knowledge to work.”
