FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

West Virginia University at Parkersburg is the recipient of a building located in downtown Parkersburg.

The gift from the Erickson Foundation, made possible by Charles and Laurie Erickson, is the W.T. Grant building, located at 705-711 Market Street, Parkersburg.

The 32,000 square-foot building was recently appraised at $550,000.   The deed was presented to the college Thursday (August 21).

"This will be a great downtown presence for the college.  We are very grateful for the Erickson gift," WVU Parkersburg President Marie Foster Gnage noted.

"We have many ideas about content and context for the building," she added.  "We will be talking with possible downtown partners in order to assess program/course needs as well as entrepreneurial activities."

The building is located near the site of the new Mountain State Blue Cross Blue Shield corporate headquarters which is currently under construction.  Area economic development officials envision that the college's expansion to Market Street will serve as a catalyst in continuing to revive the downtown area.
