WVU Parkersburg Board of Governors approves request to seek national accreditation to offer RN-BSN degree.

The West Virginia University at Parkersburg Board of Governors has approved a request by the college to proceed in seeking national accreditation to offer a bachelor's degree in nursing.

At its most recent (Nov. 12) meeting, the Board approved the institution moving forward to submit a candidacy application to the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

Currently, West Virginia University offers its Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing on the Parkersburg campus and other locations around the state. WVU Parkersburg has received approval by Brian Noland, chancellor of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, to transition WVU's RN to BSN program so that WVU Parkersburg offers the BSN degree locally.

A projected timeline for submission of the program proposal and date of implementation was provided to the Board of Governors by Rhonda Richards, executive dean of academic affairs. Once eligibility requirements are determined by the NLNAC, a mentor will be assigned to WVU Parkersburg to facilitate the self-review process and planning for candidacy status, Dr. Richards told the board.

The college offers an Associate in Applied Science degree in Nursing. Presently, WVU Parkersburg offers six bachelor's degrees in addition to its certificate and associate programs.

In other action, the board heard reports from each of its committees. President Marie Foster Gnage noted that preparation is under way to develop an enrollment management plan under the direction of Dr. Richards and Anthony Underwood, dean of students.
