They are Cindy Bullock of Vienna, term ending June 30, 2010; Keith Burdette of Vienna, term ending June 30, 2012; Joe Campbell of Parkersburg, term ending June 30, 2012; Gerard El Chaar of Vienna, term ending June 30, 2010; William H. The appointments, effective immediately, commence a new governance structure for WVU Parkersburg following legislation in effect July 1 which created a statewide network of independently accredited community and technical colleges, including WVU Parkersburg.
As part of House Bill 3215, WVU Parkersburg is now governed by the local 12-member Board of Governors. The BOG also includes one representative each of the campus faculty, staff and student constituencies.
"We are pleased to move forward with our new board," WVU Parkersburg President Marie Foster Gnage noted. "This marks an exciting chapter for the institution with our governance structure now in place."
The legislation provides that WVU Parkersburg may maintain and continue its association with West Virginia University. It also recognizes the Parkersburg campus as a higher education center offering community college programs and bachelor's degrees.
WVU Parkersburg is the only public community college in West Virginia accredited to offer baccalaureate degrees.
