FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Three West Virginia University at Parkersburg students will be attending The Women of Appalachia: Their Heritage and Accomplishments’ conference this week (Oct. 19-20) at the Ohio University-Zanesville campus.
The ninth annual conference is designed to give recognition to the generations of women with traditions deeply rooted in the past.
The WVU Parkersburg students are attending the conference with full scholarships funded by the WVU at Parkersburg Foundation. Their research reports for SOC 323: Sociology of Rural Life, taught by Gregg Busch, assistant professor of sociology, were selected as the top three by an impartial interdisciplinary faculty team. The Foundation awarded funding to the students to attend the conference.
Those attending and their reports are Amy Axley of Parkersburg, “Family Structures in the Appalachian Region;” Michelle Carvell of Washington, “Women and Children in Appalachia” and Jennifer Metz of Parkersburg, “The Real Appalachian Women: Breaking Down Stereotypes.”
