WVU Parkersburg appoints new executive dean of academic affairs.

Rhonda Richards has been appointed executive dean of academic affairs at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.

Following a national search, Dr. Richards assumes the position vacated by Joseph Badgley who served as executive dean for eight years.  Dr. Badgley has chosen to return to the classroom.  He will be teaching in the college’s Education Division in the fall.

"I am delighted that Rhonda has joined our executive team," noted WVU Parkersburg President Marie Foster Gnage.  "Her nearly 20 years of experience in academic administration and teaching are a perfect blend for the executive dean position."

She received her bachelor of arts degree from the University of South Carolina, her master’s from West Virginia University and her doctorate from Ohio University.

"WVU-P provides an exciting combination of opportunity, innovativeness, and location.  I am pleased to join a team with a long history of educational excellence," Dr. Richards said.

The new executive dean’s background includes administrative appointments at Winthrop University, SC, where she was associate dean of education; the University of Arkansas, Monticello, where she served as assistant vice chancellor, and, most recently, Midway College in Kentucky where she was vice president and dean of the Women’s College and held the faculty rank of full professor.  From 1989 to 1994, she taught in Marietta College’s Education Division as an assistant professor.
