WVU Parkersburg to require employee photo identification cards on campus.CONTACT: Dave White, director of facilities and grounds and college safety officer, 424-8225.FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEEmployees at West Virginia University at Parkersburg will be required to wear photo identification cards on campus, beginning Jan. 1.
The identification cards are an initiative of the college’s safety plan provisions and represent an on-going response in maintaining a safe campus.
“We continue to review and enhance our safety plan to ensure that the campus is a safe teaching, learning and working environment,” said Dave White, director of facilities and grounds and college safety officer.
“Requiring photo ID cards is a next-step element of our safety planning and preparation,” he added.
The photo ID cards will be required to be worn on campus by all part-time and full-time staff and faculty; work-study students, student workers and Mountaineer temporary staff. The cards include information regarding responses to various emergency scenarios and are integrated with the college’s emergency paging system.
Appropriate and timely responses to campus emergencies are essential to protect the safety of the college and individuals on campus, White noted. WVU Parkersburg's emergency response procedures address recognized areas of potential risk as well as emergency levels.
In the event of certain emergency situations, only essential personnel, registered students, faculty, staff and emergency service agencies would be authorized to be on campus, White said.
“Those who could not present proper identification, such as a student registration or employee ID card, during a campus emergency or related situation would be asked to leave the college grounds,” he added.
The photo ID cards are to be worn at all times on campus. Lanyards/clips are being provided. Wearing of the IDs is mandatory, effective Jan. 1, 2008.
Photo identification cards for WVU Parkersburg’s adjunct faculty and student workers will be renewable each semester.
